History

Sebring was founded in 1912. It was named after George Sebring, a pottery manufacturer from Ohio who developed the city. The village of Sebring, Ohio is also named for George Sebring and his family.[9] It was chartered by the state of Florida in 1913, and was selected as the county seat of Highlands County when the county was created in 1921.

Sebring Weather & Climate

South Central Florida, in the general area located southeast of Tampa, has a semi-tropical climate. It is warm and humid with almost daily thundershowers in the summertime, and delightfully pleasant winters with much less rain than summer. The rainy season for Florida is May through September, with the most rain in late summer.
Thunderstorms usually do not interfere with outdoor plans because they tend to pop up quickly and do not last long. Central Florida, perhaps less exposed to cooling ocean breezes, has a longer period of high-temperature, high-humidity days than southern Florida. Winters are very lovely and mild during the day with cool evenings.

Sebring is a charming community located southeast of Tampa in central Florida. It is known as ?The City on the Circle,? due to its unique circular plan where all roads lead to and from the center of town. Circle Park and Circle Drive are the focal points in town where many community events and festivals are held, and shops and businesses ring the area. Sebring is about eighty percent natural area with streams, lakes and orange groves and the other twenty- percent is residential. This provides lots of opportunities for fishing and boating, picnicking, hiking and biking. Eleven golf courses are located within five miles of town, and Sebring is home to Sebring International Raceway, known for its week long races in the fall and spring of each year. The historic Circle Park in downtown Sebring was developed in the early 1900s and has a variety of antique, craft, collectibles, jewelry and specialty shops. Other places to visit in town include the Highlands Art League & Museum, Sebring Historical Society and the Highlands Civic Center. Sebring is approximately an hour and a half from Disney World and Orlando, and two hours from Miami.

Children's Museum of Highlands :Children's Museum of the Highlands - a delightful place to play located in downtown Sebring Florida. Opened in 1990, the museum has been THE site for fun and learning for Central Florida for generations of children.

Highlands Hammock State Park :One of Florida’s oldest parks, opening to the public in 1931, this park was established when local citizens came together to promote the hammock as a candidate for national park status. During the Great Depression, just prior to World War II, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) developed additional park facilities and the beginnings of a botanical garden.
